The Zipper: A Fascinating Fastener

Brooklyn designer, Kate Cusack, approaches jewelry design as a visual artist, rather than as a fashion designer. She sees beyond the given purpose of a material and works with its other possibilities — treating it as line, color, and texture. In this way, Kate used a humble, metal-teethed zipper, in 2003, to create the first Zipper Pin. Since then, hundreds of pins have been sold in museum shops and fine craft galleries across the country. In 2006, Kate began a series of one-of-a-kind Zipper Necklaces. Both pins and necklaces are playful works of art that are both decorative, and unexpectedly sophisticated conversation pieces.

“In art school,” Kate explained, “I realized that once you allow yourself to use materials in unconventional ways, then, just about anything is possible. It’s ironic that most fashion designers try to hide or disguise zippers in their creations. However, I love zippers’ shiny metal teeth and I want to show off, not hide, their sparkle and their sinuous flexibility.”

Kate’s ingenious creations makes us realize that there is no limit to what one can do with a humble zipper.

Each Zipper accessory is unique and hand-sewn. Variations on certain styles are repeated, but in general no two pieces are identical. Retail prices range from $400 to $1000 according to complexity and design.

Current Zipper Accessories can be purchased in selected shops, for instance; the Etsy. Custom designs based on style and price are also possible--please contact Kate Cusack directly.

Salute!

MERRY GO TERRY

I believe everything is there for a reason, and for a cause. In this case, it explains how the world can have the genuine artist, Terry Richardson. He was born and raised by the unconventional woman who dares to give her son a true meaning of freedom. She lets him to evolve and revolve in a complete form of growing process as an unique individual. And both the mother and son have finally proven how being different is not (always) wrong. That is, I will say, is a cause of his existence.

Terry, as also been said in his Bio, is an international celebrity as well as one of the most prolific and compelling photographers of his generation. Known for his uncanny ability to cut to the raw essence of whomever appears before his lens, Mr. Richardson's vision is at once humorous, tragic, often beautiful, and always provocative. And that would be the perfect reason for us to have him around.

And I assume that never would've happened if wasn't because of her mom let him to. This lady over here, is the beautiful mind behind Terry's wildest dream and achievements. She doesn't make, nor rule limits to little Terry, and look what she has got now to be proud of; a world-class artist who took photographs of other world-class artists. And he can still be the same little Terry while doing it.

You absolutely rock, Mom!

See more of Terry's masterpieces that he did with other artists, include the 'artist' in US politic.

BLOWRIDER

Talk about a man's hobby, some men consider their car or bike as their first wife before the real woman they were married in front of the altar. And definitely Bike Exif reflects so. I don't know whether the man behind this website, Chris Hunter, already married or still single, but I bet no woman can beat his love to motorbikes. Or maybe, unless the woman rides one too(?).

Check the website yourself to see many types of motorcycles from different eras, different colors and different brands for your reference before coming to a showroom and get one home with you. Also consider the manufacturer countries and their currencies beforehand. Too many choices can kill you alright, but remember, as Chris Hunter said in the bottom of the web page, Loud Pipes Save Lives.

Real beauties, aren't they?
