BEAUTY X PAIN

I had my first and only tattoo (at least, for now) in a beautiful afternoon in phi phi island last year. It is a traditional bamboo tattoo, which a signature style of tattoo art in the island.

They said bamboo tattoo hurts less than the machine work, but since they do it manually (yes, they hold up a needle with a long, tiny stick of bamboo and start to draw on your body with special tint), it will take longer time to finish one pic with medium complexity. Mine, took more than 4 hour to finish while the Irish guy who was at the time sitting next to me had been there for an on and off three days in a roll to finally had his full arm covered with a freehand tattoo drawing of koi fish tattoo.

Knowing the fact that the more painful process is done by machine (which unfortunately I've never experienced, yet), I wonder how these beautiful ladies did it. They got these massive, complex and details tattoos carved on their softly skin, and some even got them in their very sensitive parts of body.

And I think they also pull it off just fine too. Great.

Anyone planning to get one too? you can find many great references here, here, here or maybe here.

Another Super Collaboration

New collaboration project by Super X Vanguard created wild mixture of jungle army look and psychedelic neon purple color. Can you handle that?

According to Super, VNGRD have designed these special “forest” Super based on Super classic silhouette, with purple Zeiss lens and purple interior. Limited to 50 individually numbered pieces, and you can buy them here.

VNGRD itself, was born in Milan in 2005 as the natural creative expression of a group of skaters, designers and artists who lived for years at the heart of the city’s underground.

Although its first collaborators and supporters were all original members of the city’s skate and hip hop subcultures, VNGRD’s aim is to go beyond its original context, by reconciling the irony, playfulness and experimental nature of its roots to the art and refinement of Italian tailoring.

As its raising status in the international community does not belie its attention to details and to quality materials, VNGRD produces exclusively within the Italian territory.

VESPA LA VISTA

Exploring ideas of vulnerability,

GAR-DE’s spring 2009 collection

offers soft knit undergarments alongside finely crafted leather jackets. The neutral colored knitwear offered in fine cotton / modal blends offers a distinctly playful take on classic American loungewear with sportswear inspired detailing.

“Last season we launched with a leather collection because we wanted to interpret
the leather jacket our way as well as connect concepts of exposure and
protection. This season, we aimed to take that notion further. We are vulnerable
when we are naked or in our underwear. The idea of soft layers worn underneath these
colorful and protective leather shells is what was inspirational to us this season;
the idea of a turtle and its shell.”

More specifically, motor scooters served as the inspiration for the leather
jackets this season. “We see the scooter as a more urban alternative to the
motorcycles of yesterday. Hence, the jackets or ‘shells’ take their cue from
vintage motor scooters, in particular the vintage Vespa motor scooter. Through bold
coloring, metal detailing and streamlined styling we treated each jacket as if it
where a new scooter model – each complete with its own personality.”

With its mix of vulnerability and invincibility, this smart and finely honed
GAR-DE S/S 09 collection comes together as a celebration of a younger, edgier
elegance. (Quoted from www.gar-de.com)

dry cleaners going graphic

I dare you to give Jeff Krichmar total freedom to design your corporate identity. As the result, he may give you a knocked up approach in design with fine finishing in delivery.

This is just one of the examples of his nicely-done works. Not for a book, not for an apparel brand, not for some advertising or design company. He did it for Sim Samuels & Co., neighborhood dry cleaners! And oh yeah, don't forget to read the copywriting. He nailed it too.

Just click on the images to have bigger and readable previews.

I will run in your parade

I found these worth-to-steal styles after digging piles of pics in my fat hard disc this afternoon. At least that keeps me busy in a lame Tuesday like this in the office. Uh uh, weekend feels a long waaaaay to go.

So, let's parade in black and let it be rough.
